Marijuana laws and legislation for Porto Alegre
Recreational marijuana use is illegal in Brazil, but medical cannabis has been legal since 2015 for patients with certain conditions, such as epilepsy and chronic pain. Cannabis products can be prescribed for these conditions, and patients have access to cannabis-based treatments. However, recreational marijuana use remains illegal, and possession of marijuana for non-medical purposes can lead to fines or imprisonment. Cultivation for personal use is also prohibited, and the country strictly enforces its marijuana laws. Despite increasing discussion about cannabis reform in Latin America, Brazilian cannabis laws remain largely restrictive, and there are no immediate steps toward legalizing recreational marijuana.
Please note that marijuana laws are subject to change. For the most up-to-date information, consult your country's official resources or a legal advisor.
Criminal prosecution
Careless, they won't usually punish or arrest you, and they probably won't care anyway unless you do it in a crowded place, in front of police, or during an altercation with them. Keep in mind: Brazilian laws are constantly changing, and depending on which officer is enforcing them, they can vary drastically, but usually, all they'll do is confiscate your weed.
Where can you buy marijuana?
I won't mention my dealer's name here, nor will I give you any advice on dealing drugs, but you should talk to people in the clubs. They usually know about it, use it, or sell it. Also, skaters in the halfpipes of Parque Marinha do Brasil (Brazilian Navy Park) usually sell something or have some to spare if you're nice :). (Especially if you're a foreigner.)
Another very good place to buy not-so-cheap, but generally good weed is PARQUE DA REDENÇÃO or FARROUPILHA near the sports grounds. There are always at least two drug dealers, but you have to be careful that they don't sell you tree branches – you have to see and smell it – VERY QUICKLY – to check.

While relaxing in a hotel bar, this guy helped me get some natural, healthy cannabis. It became one of the highlights of my vacation. I always contact him now at dopefast420@gmail.com. Highly recommended!
Marijuana prices
It varies greatly depending on the quantity you buy. One kilogram for R$700 (US$350) would be fair, just as you would pay R$3 (US$1,5) for one gram. It depends on how much you buy, where you buy it, and from whom you buy it.
Marijuana brands
It can vary a lot. Professional dealers usually don't have the best stuff (and are therefore the cheapest), since it's grown in large quantities and exported from other states. They probably have everything from cheap stuff to low-quality chronic. Buying small amounts from non-professional dealers is most likely good, but also a bit more expensive (or free if they're your friends).
Further information
If you're a minor or a tourist, you probably won't get into trouble, but you might have to pay the police a small bribe. Marijuana is usually called Bíque (pronounced Becky), Baseado (pronounced bah-see-ah-doo), or Maconha.
Have a good trip 😉 (in the truest sense of the word) and be sure to visit the cool alternative clubs in our city.
