When visiting Málaga, beware of police officers with names like “Policia Local” (local police), “Policia Nacional” (you can probably guess which one), and “Guardia Civil” – the feared military police, the Guardia Civil.
The local police probably just confiscate drugs like the locals do, but the Guardia Civil will make your life a living hell. My friend was threatened with being shot in the head for possessing five grams. They're corrupt assholes.
Marijuana laws and legislation for Málaga
Since February 2025, the regulation of medical cannabis has been progressing in Spain. In September 2024, the Spanish Ministry of Health published a draft royal decree establishing the framework for medical cannabis use. This draft law permits only specialist physicians to prescribe cannabis-based treatments for certain conditions, including severe treatment-resistant epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, chronic treatment-resistant pain, and chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting. Prescribed cannabis preparations will be available exclusively in hospital pharmacies as compounded prescriptions, with the exception of plant-based raw materials such as cannabis flowers. The list of qualifying conditions may expand as scientific knowledge evolves.
Recreational cannabis use remains illegal in Spain; however, personal cultivation and consumption in private spaces are decriminalized under certain conditions. Private individuals are permitted to grow cannabis for personal use, provided it is not publicly visible and not intended for sale. Public possession or consumption can be punished with fines ranging from €600 to €30.000. Cannabis social clubs operate in a legal gray area, allowing their members to cultivate and consume cannabis together in private settings. These clubs must operate as non-profit organizations and adhere to strict regulations to avoid legal issues.
In December 2024, the Autonomous Community of Madrid announced plans to introduce new regulations to protect minors from cannabis products such as CBD-containing vape oils and edibles. The proposed measures include a sales ban to individuals under 18, restrictions on vending machine sales, and limitations on advertising within 300 meters of educational institutions. These initiatives reflect ongoing efforts to reconcile public health concerns with evolving cannabis policy.
Where can you buy marijuana in Málaga?
In most areas, marijuana is available for tourists, but avoid areas like Montemar and San Andrés, as the locals have little respect for tourists. Benalmádena is a growing tourist town where Moroccan hashish is easy to find. Head towards Paloma Park and the skate park, as that's where the local gangsters hang out. Just ask one of the Hispanic young men (usually between 17 and 21 years old) on a scooter for "chocolate" (choclate being a common term for hashish). You'll then be asked "cuanto," which means "how much." Don't answer in grams or ounces; just state the amount you're willing to spend, e.g., 10, 20 euros, or more. This is the safest way to get good Moroccan hashish.

Malaga Marijuana Prices:
Moroccan hashish is relatively inexpensive. The price is around 50 euros for an ounce and 10 euros for an eighth. Buds are a bit more expensive, but if you team up with the right person (usually English), you can have an amazing Skunk experience. This is usually homegrown or imported from Amsterdam.
Brands:
Moroccan hashish is primarily smoked in southern Spain, given its proximity to Morocco. The potency varies – sometimes you can find a large block of hashish for 10 euros, but unfortunately, the quality doesn't always match the price. Occasionally, you can also find blonde "Rubio." This is the best you can get in Malaga. Skunk is also available, but unfortunately very rare. However, if you're lucky enough to find some, the quality is undeniable and it can range from very strong to extremely potent.
