Marijuana laws and legislation for Copenhagen
Since February 2025, strict regulations regarding cannabis have been in place in Denmark, although recreational use remains illegal. Possession and consumption of cannabis for non-medical purposes are prohibited, and violations can result in fines or imprisonment depending on the quantity.
In particular, the Copenhagen district of Christiania, once known for its open cannabis trade, has taken significant steps to curb it in the face of escalating violence and organized crime.
Denmark, on the other hand, is pursuing a progressive approach to medical cannabis. Launched in 2018, its pilot program for medical cannabis provides patients with access to cannabis-based treatments for conditions such as multiple sclerosis and chronic pain. The program boasts high participation rates.
Over 20.000 prescriptions have been issued, and around 1.800 patients are currently benefiting from these treatments. Given this success, the Danish government announced plans at the end of 2024 to transition the pilot project into a permanent framework by 2026 to ensure continued legal access for patients in need.
Criminal prosecution
The Copenhagen police do not look for smokers, or as one of our reporters remarked: “Several times I have walked past five or six police officers while smoking a joint… most of the time they do nothing because that would cause a kind of commotion and lots of flying bricks.”
Where can you buy cannabis in Copenhagen?
A good spot would be by the river – many dealers sit there while their partners try to attract customers. Just go up to the dealer, sit down, exchange your drugs, and then leave calmly. You'll still get good quality for the usual price…
Christiania: Christiania is a group of squatters in Copenhagen. It's easily accessible by metro. Just get off at Christianhavn. From there, take the only exit up the stairs and walk straight ahead for two streets. Turn left at the second street and walk 200 meters until you reach Christiania. Inside, you'll see stalls selling supplies and souvenirs. Right next to them, a group of men with large German Shepherds are gathered around an oil can. Go up to them and ask for weed or hashish. It's very professional, and the transaction goes smoothly. Once you have your weed/hashish, there are designated areas where you can have a beer and smoke a joint.
Marijuana prices in Copenhagen: 5 to 15 euros per gram of marijuana, 4 to 13 euros per gram of hashish.
In Christiania, marijuana is sold by the bag. One bag contains 2,8 grams of marijuana and costs 200 DKK (Skunk). A discount of 500 DKK is offered when buying three bags.

In a busy shopping mall, this guy helped me get some natural cannabis that was simply fantastic and made my whole vacation even better. The quality was top-notch. I now always contact him at dopefast420@gmail.com when I travel. I highly recommend him to anyone who appreciates high-quality marijuana.

Report from Christiania:
In April 2005, I was in Christiania. After descriptions on the internet and elsewhere spoke of an active and open market, and the current city report on the website webehigh stated that it was difficult to find anything there, I was unsure what to expect.
This is what happened, and given the current, unstable situation in Christiania, this may not be representative of the future.
Getting there was easy. Christiania is very close to the city center (so you can either take a taxi or a bus from the main train station).
Once there (I arrived around noon on Monday), I looked around and noticed several stalls selling street food, souvenirs, and accessories. Many people were standing around the stalls in small groups. And there were dogs, lots of large dogs. Most of these dogs, however, were on leashes and not too threatening.
I browsed the stalls and then slowly approached the groups. Someone quickly came up to me and asked if I wanted anything. I said yes. He immediately led me to a woman sitting on a bench. She was in her late forties or early fifties. She sold marijuana in small quantities. For 100.000 (1 US dollar is about 6.000 to 7.000), I got about 3 grams of a pretty good seedless strain grown in Denmark. That was quite cheap compared to the seedless strains I bought about a week later in Amsterdam. Afterward, I strolled around the commune for a bit and then took the bus back to the city center. The area has a somewhat depressing feel. I'm not sure if it was the day, the time of day, or pressure from the Danish government. The future of this commune seems uncertain. It definitely lacked a sense of vibrancy.
For me , this experience was somewhat bittersweet. I hope Christiana succeeds, because it's a special place. The shopping experience itself wasn't bad. The woman and her accomplice were both very friendly. After I bought the product, people generally lost interest in me, and I didn't feel like anyone was watching me as I walked around.
