Marijuana laws and legislation for Sturovo
Since February 2025, cannabis has been illegal in Slovakia for both recreational and medicinal purposes. Possession, cultivation, and distribution of cannabis are strictly prohibited and severely punished. Individuals found in possession of even small amounts can face imprisonment for three to seven years, depending on the circumstances.
In a significant policy shift, Slovakia removed cannabidiol (CBD) from its list of psychotropic substances in 2021, aligning itself with the broader standards of the European Union. This change permits the sale and use of CBD products, provided they contain less than 0,2% tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). However, current regulations primarily restrict the use of CBD to cosmetic products; CBD for internal use remains prohibited.
Despite these developments, Slovakia has some of the strictest cannabis laws in Europe. Reform efforts continue, but currently both recreational and medical cannabis use are illegal, and the use of CBD is restricted to specific applications.
Criminal prosecution
It's okay to smoke in parks, but watch out for the police… they don't tolerate marijuana… if you're lucky, you can bribe them (at least $200).

You don't find dealers on the street. You have to make some contacts, then you can get your hands on some really good weed.

It depends on the "friendliness" of the dealers... I'm from Slovakia, so I get 1g of White Widow for $10... If you find some smoking friends, you (as a tourist) could get 1g for $10-15.
Brands:
Skunk, White Widow, Jack Herer – the quality of weed varies. If you have good connections, you can get incredible weed. One hit from a bong and you won't be able to move.

In Slovakia, people enjoy smoking marijuana. It's not true that they can't handle it. But the marijuana community tends to operate underground. Nobody is used to smoking joints in cafes or bars. Everyone consumes marijuana in their own home, within a close-knit group.
If you're in the mood for something, you have to go to the ARGOS pub. It's in the center of Šturovo. Every local stoner comes here to chill. I think it's the only place where you can smoke indoors. 😉 Šturovo also has many tourist attractions, like VADAS – the largest swimming pool in Slovakia. Šturovo is also located on the Danube, which can be a wonderful experience – getting high on the riverbank. In the summer, the streets are packed (like during Carnival), and you can party all night with attractive tourists from all over Europe.
